Today, I was shocked and disappointed with my generation. On my way to work in the morning, I witnessed a young man slap an older man, just because the old man was trying to board the crowded Mumbai local train the young man was travelling in. Instead of helping him board (and there was place enough for one more person), the younger man chose to push him off and roundly slap him as well. The slap left the old man standing on the platform in a state of shock; and sent his spectacles flying under the train with the impact, onto the railway tracks! Last night, another 20-something rudely dismissed an elderly man, who asked him to vacate the seat reserved for senior citizens in BEST buses.
Are we that self-involved that we have forgotten basic human courtesies? If yes, then it is truely tragic. And I sincerely hope these two men are the exception and not the rule...
Today's incident motivated me to start blogging about my thoughts and experiences - an idea I have been toying with for a long time, but which never actually took off the ground until now - and I am looking forward to sharing my musings with all those interested in reading them. :)
Stay tuned! F
